Oracle Gen 2 Cloud, AI and process automation enhancements for ERP Cloud, cloud migration options, autonomous database -- Oracle OpenWorld 2018 is filled with major announcements, showcases for new cloud applications and technologies, and customer success stories that demonstrate why Oracle Cloud is the present and the future. For Oracle partners and customers, there is no event like Oracle OpenWorld.
One of the big topics of this week was blockchain. Although it may seem like an emerging technology to some, Hitachi and Oracle already have a blockchain proof of concept – a test that we've been able to build because we're an early partner of Oracle. With Hitachi’s OT experience and Oracle’s IT, we have a complementary relationship that can move these technologies forward, benefitting our customers and society and fulfilling our common mission of improving the way we do things, improving the way we work, and improving society.
This synergy is urgently needed. During a presentation my colleague, John Hallin, vice president, Hitachi Consulting talked about Hitachi being able to make an RFID sensor to fit on the body of a bee. I could hear people reacting. We’ve been able to do that for a number of years – and it's still a “wow” technology. It occurred to me that this is fantastic but also indicative of how we aren't all moving forward as quickly as we should be. The message was clearly that we have to move quickly to adopt the technologies we have now and those that are just becoming available.
One of the highlights of my time at Oracle OpenWorld 2018 is the opportunity to see longstanding Hitachi Consulting customers, meet new ones, collaborate with Oracle colleagues and share thought leadership and experiences. The event offers an unparalleled opportunity for attendees to meet with experts from both Hitachi and Oracle, all in one place and focused on helping organizations enhance the value of their Oracle Cloud applications and continue on their digital journeys. One particularly fun experience today happened at our booth.
I was speaking with a customer about smart manufacturing and he mentioned working at Hitachi Consulting a few years ago. He wondered if I knew his former manager, I responded yes, and we had a chat about how technology has evolved in the last 10 years, yet the fundamentals of a trusted, reliable partner like Hitachi Consulting remain steady.
At OpenWorld, Hitachi and Oracle continue to build on their 20-year alliance with live demos of our key solutions, including Smart Manufacturing for Oracle, Predictive Maintenance for Oracle, and Migration Map for Oracle EBS to Cloud, jointly led in-booth theater sessions such as Smart Manufacturing, AI/Machine Learning, Blockchain, and 18 more, and the chance to talk one-on-one with Hitachi and Oracle experts about your own vision for your future.
